What is eStim?
eStim, also known as electrical stimulation, is a beneficial treatment performed by chiropractors. It is used to treat various injuries and is usually involved in many rehabilitation programs. The process involves our doctors of chiropractic placing electro-pads on your skin where you have an injury or discomfort. Next, our doctors will turn on the machine connected to the pads, which then sends electric impulses to the area that help stimulate your skeletal muscles. Using buttons or a dial, our chiropractors can decrease or increase the intensity of this machine depending on your desired needs. The main purpose of this process is to simulate what happens when you contract and release a muscle constantly.
What Conditions Does it Help?
Electrical stimulation is used to treat a wide variety of different conditions. Some of the more common conditions that see the most benefits from eStim include:
When you tear a tendon, the muscles surrounding the affected area may become stiff from being stagnant for months at a time. These tears, like a torn Achilles for example, need to be revitalized in order to rehabilitate properly. Electrical stimulation wakes these tendons up, resulting in a speedy recovery.
Given that our shoulders include many tendons, ligaments, and muscles, these all can become weak if you’re dealing with an injury, such as a torn rotator cuff or impingement. In most cases, resting the shoulder can cause these tendons, ligaments, and muscles to become very weak. Electrical stimulation helps to repair and strengthen these areas during the rehabilitation process.
