Cold Laser Therapy at Vaughn Chiropractic

Throughout the history of medicine, practitioners have found countless healing properties in the natural resources around them, from beneficial herbs and roots to mineral salts. Did you know that light offers amazing healing properties as well? A specific type of amplified light known as low-level or "cold" laser energy can put nature's benefits to work for your acute injuries or chronic pain conditions. Here at Vaughn Chiropractic, we're proud to provide cold laser therapy to our Waterford and Clarkston patients as a complement to our other all-natural healing modalities.

Amplified Light to Help You Heal

Lower frequencies of laser energy are capable of passing through the skin surface to the underlying tissues without leaving so much as a mark. These frequencies are employed in low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as cold laser therapy to distinguish it from its more intense surgical equivalent.

Cold laser energy's true magic occurs beneath the skin. As the energy touches injured or ailing tissues, it causes the cellular "organs" known as mitochondria to boost their production of a chemical energy source called ATP. The cells can then use this ATP to ramp up their regenerative activities, allowing them to repair the tissues more quickly and effectively. The laser beam also stimulates blood flow to the affected tissues. Increased blood flow helps inflammatory substances and excess fluids exit the treatment site, reducing swelling and pain without medication.

Part of Your Holistic Treatment Program from Our Chiropractor

Our chiropractors, Dr. Jacqueline Vaughn and Dr. Ronda Marshall, may prescribe cold laser therapy alongside other therapies to address a great many issues. Cold laser therapy can be used as a treatment for:

  • Nerve damage
  • Strained muscles and tendons
  • Sprained ligaments
  • Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain syndromes
  • Muscle spasms
  • Arthritis pain and inflammation
  • Acute injury and post-operative wound healing
  • Bone repair
  • TMJ pain

Cold laser therapy is safe enough to be prescribed on a regular basis, which is a great comfort for patients who would rather not take constant dosages of painkilling drugs. It can also enhance the benefits you're receiving from chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, corrective exercises, and other elements of a holistic healing or pain management program.
