Today we are going to talk about 5 myths surrounding chiropractic, and hopefully, this will dispel some rumors or answer some questions so we are all on the same page.

Myth one, once you start going to a chiropractor you have to go for life.

I tell my patients that that is both true and false.

If you want healthy teeth and gums you go to the dentist regularly.

You're not going to stop that anytime soon, I'm sure.

If you want your car to run properly you perform regular maintenance.

You rotate tires, you get an oil change to keep it running smoothly.

That is what I provide for my patients, however just because you go once doesn't mean you're going to be magically different and need an adjustment more than you did before.

Myth two, chiropractic is dangerous.

Chiropractic adjustments are not painful and they are not dangerous.

But you need to find a health care professional who knows you.

They need to know when to treat you or when to refer you out.

If you go into an office and they say free adjustments, no X-rays, no exam, I would be a little cautious about that type of a health care provider.

They need to know whether or not you would benefit from treatment or if you need to go to someone else

Myth three, chiropractic isn't for everyone.

I always tell my patients "If you have a spine, you need to have it looked at, maintained, and adjusted."

In my 40 years of practice, I've adjusted people from newborns to 99-year-olds.

If you have a spine, you need to keep it healthy.

Myth four, chiropractic is expensive.

A healthy, happier life is priceless.

Chiropractic is very cost-effective compared to surgeries, prescriptions, loss of work time, loss of family unity.

Ten years of chiropractic adjustments are less than the cost of one major surgery.

So when you think about the price tag understand how much you save, not just in money, but in time and quality of life.

And myth five, chiropractors aren't real doctors.

I hear this all the time and that couldn't be further from the truth.

In reality, we have four to five years of graduate school.

While we don't go into pharmacology or surgery as medical doctors do, we stay into the spinal column, into the nervous system.

So we study more than medical doctors when it comes to the human spine.

Besides, we don't need pharmacology because we are a drug-free environment.
